Statement of Faith

I believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 HCSB All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:20-21 HCSB First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

All Scripture is self‐attesting and being Truth, requires our unreserved submission in all areas of life.

The infallible Word of God, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is a complete and unified witness to God’s redemptive acts, culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks.

On this sure foundation, I affirm these additional essentials of our faith:

  1. There is one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To Him be all honor, glory, and praise forever!
(John 1:1-3 HCSB In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created.)
  2. The deity of Christ
(John 10:33 HCSB “We aren’t stoning You for a good work,” the Jews answered, “but for blasphemy, because You—being a man—make Yourself God.”)
  3. Jesus’s virgin birth
(Matthew 1:23 HCSB See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.” )
  4. Jesus’s sinless life
(Hebrews 4:15 HCSB For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin.)
  5. Jesus’s miracles
(John 20:30-31 HCSB Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and by believing you may have life in His name.)
  6. Jesus’s vicarious and atoning death
(1 Corinthians 15:3 HCSB For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures)
  7. Jesus’s bodily resurrection
(1 Corinthians 15:4 HCSB that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures)
  8. Jesus’s ascension to the right hand of the Father
(Mark 16:19 HCSB Then after speaking to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.)
  9. Jesus will return to earth in power and glory
(Acts 1:11 HCSB They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen Him going into heaven.”)
  10. The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, has come to glorify Christ and seal us for the day of redemption.
(Ephesians 1:13-14 HCSB When you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed in Him, you were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. He is the down payment of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory.)
  11. God offers redemption and restoration to all who repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ
(Acts 3:19-21 HCSB Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah. Heaven must welcome Him until the times of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about by the mouth of His holy prophets from the beginning.)
  12. Every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture.
(Mark 12:29-31 HCSB “This is the most important,” Jesus answered: Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. “The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”)
  13. Salvation is by grace, a free gift of God apart from works, salvation involves repentance, in respect to God and thus turning from one’s own way to God’s way, salvation is through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in Christ alone, all who receive Jesus Christ are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become the children of God, and true salvation will be manifested by a changed life.
(Ephesians 2:8-9 HCSB For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast.)
  14. God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
(Genesis 1:26-27 HCSB Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female.)
  15. The term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture
(Genesis 2:24-25 HCSB This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh. Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.)
  16. God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other
(Hebrews 13:4 HCSB Marriage must be respected by all, and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge immoral people and adulterers.)
  17. God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
(1 Corinthians 6:18 HCSB Run from sexual immorality! “Every sin a person can commit is outside the body.” On the contrary, the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.)
  18. All human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
(Psalm 139:13-14 HCSB For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.)
  19. The Lord Jesus Christ commands all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations. Obedience to the Great Commission requires total commitment
(Matthew 28:19-20 HCSB Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” )
  20. The Bible commands Christians to make every effort to live at peace and to resolve disputes with each other in private or within the Christian community in conformity with the biblical instructions
(Philippians 2:14-16 HCSB Do everything without grumbling and arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world. Hold firmly to the message of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing.)
